Happy New Year (Sort of!)

For some reason, I always think of September as the “real” start of the new year. I know that January 1st gets all the attention, but September just seems like a better time to try new things, to tackle projects that have been on the “to do” list for far too long and to get back to learning! The cooler temperatures, the back-to-school excitement…maybe it’s just me, but I’m feeling motivated!

For us, the beginning of September means getting the shop organized, doing an inventory of parts and supplies along with getting to the dirtiest recesses of the van with the shop vac. It also means looking at opportunities to keep learning – both with classes and through mentoring and networking.

Did you know that September is Performance & Learning Month? Organized by The Institute for Performance and Learning, it’s a celebration to promote the importance of workplace learning. Whether you’re on the job site or in an office, learning has been proven to be a critical factor when assessing job performance and productivity.

How can you get involved?

  1. Look for opportunities to learn new things – at work and in “real life”.
  2. See if there is anyone in your life that could benefit from your expertise.
  3. Sign up for that class or workshop you’ve been researching.
  4. Volunteer to share your knowledge and skills while gaining new perspectives.
