Plumbing may not be the first industry that comes to mind when you think “trendy”, but there’s one trend we can’t ignore – the bidet. A familiar fixture in Europe and in parts of the Middle East, the bidet has been less popular in North America. But that’s changing for a few reasons and bidets are the newest bathroom trend.
What is a bidet?
A bidet looks a bit like a small toilet but without a seat or lid. Traditionally, they are installed next to a toilet for easy access and serve to wash yourself after using the toilet. But the newest trend is a built-in bidet. These are essentially a turbo-charged toilet seats that have a self-sanitizing spray nozzle that extends when the bidet is activated. You can even order some with heated seats! Whether you prefer a separate fixture or one of the newest models where there is no need for a separate fixture or a larger bathroom floor plan, there are many options to keep you on trend.
What are the benefits of embracing the bidet trend?
Comfort: Toilet paper doesn’t always cut it and bidets ensure complete cleanliness and comfort. With many of the newest models, you can customize the water temperature and the drying air temperature using a remote control.
Environmental awareness: When you give up toilet paper, you lessen your environmental footprint. Keep a roll or two for guests who may not embrace your new bidet, but on balance you’ll be reducing the household’s waste and the amount of paper and water you use. Yes, you can even reduce the amount of water used because you may be able to use the toilet’s low flush option more often without fear of leaving paper in the bowl. No paper will also reduce the risk of blocked pipes!
A general focus on hygiene, a desire to lessen environmental impact and the simplicity of converting a conventional toilet into a combination toilet/bidet are all influencing the trend.
